In this page I’ll be posting some of my experiments, mainly all of them done with Game Maker. Most of them are proofs of concept, or quick implementations of game design ideas I have.

The beauty of math

Any screen grab doesn't do the creature any justice, this thing has to be seen in movement. Or still, if that's your thing, it looks pretty even when the player does nothing.
I pictured in my head the math for the “petals” surrounding the character circle and then made a prototype of the idea. It turned out looking really cool and so I proceeded with a few addittions which turned into other cool looking effects. It took me 4 days to polish, but when everything was finished I had too many options, so I decided to add a customization menu.
Tails, tail lines, whiskers and petals are available for now. I might add a beak that opens and closes, but not for now. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this creature yet because I can’t come up with an interesting game to use it on. Sure, I could do something like Flow, it already looks similar, but that’s not the direction I want to take with this experiment. I would appreciate some suggestions though.
Controls: You can move the circle thingy with the arrow keys or the WASD keys. To fiddle with the menu options or the sliders use the mouse.
The FPS figure on the top left of the screen is the frames per second. It should be 60, but for slower computers this number might drop. If you have any issues just leave a comment or send me an email (the one in the about page).

Paint it red

Paint! Erase! Dance with yourself to make a pretty painting.
Paint it red is obviously a temporary name. The game is all about painting and erasing and considering that it has implemented only one of the ideas I had, it holds it’s own remarkably well. Only one of the NPCs is there (the erasing circle) but his behaviour is not exactly what I had in mind. Still, for now it works so I will likely develop it further.
Sadly, Game Maker can’t handle what I’ll need for this one, so I’ll have to jump to another platform this time.
